About us

Swashglass has evolved from our love of the beach and beach combing. We started to collect Sea glass from the beaches in Suffolk and before long we had quite a collection. We now create our own unique jewellery using Sterling Silver and the hand collected Sea glass, which is so tactile and beautiful. We handcraft the Sterling silver and hand drill the Sea glass and combine our talents into the unique jewellery you see on our website.

Sea glass is special as it can take up to 100 years of being tumbled in the sea to turn it into a unique gem. Frosted in appearance and smooth to the touch, why wouldn’t you want to wear it !!

Each piece of Sea glass is different and so you are buying unique jewellery that no-one else will have !!!

A beautiful Suffolk beach.

We spend alot of time walking on the beach and sea glass hunting. We have also noticed that we fail to notice fellow dog walkers or boats powering past us as all eyes are on the sand and pebbles, looking all the time for that something special that just might be waiting for us to pick up and turn into a piece of jewellery.

I think its called an 'obsession' !!

Work at the bench.

Here is a busy morning making sterling silver bezel settings for sea glass pendants.

There is alot of patience and time needed to make these perfect for the individual piece of sea glass to fit perfectly.

Not all of them go to plan !! But most of them turn out beautifully and look great as a pendant.

Work at the bench.

Drilling sea glass also takes alot of skill and patience. A combination of slowly drilling whilst dripping water onto the glass to prevent cracking, chipping or breaking is needed. ( i have learnt this from a few mistakes )

Also a top tip is to drill roughly half way and then turning the sea glass over to drill through to the other side. This prevents the back of the glass shearing off and leaves a nice clean drill hole all ready for putting your sea glass onto a bail or wire etc.

PMC3

This is alot of fun to work with!

PMC3 is a clay medium that has fine silver particles within it. Moulding and creating is done first before kiln firing. After firing it needs sanding and polishing and you are then left with solid fine silver which is .999fs stamped.

I love working with this and it compliments the sea glass to make beautiful pendants.

Repairing

Recently i have been priviledged enough to be asked to repair some necklaces that had seen better days and were falling apart.

This enabled me to gain another new skill that i haven't used with sea glass jewellery. This new skill was using wire thread and crimps to hold the beads in place.

I enjoyed repairing these old necklaces and giving them a new lease of life.

This picture shows just a few of the repairs i have done recently.
