Antiques of the sea...

Holding this cache of gems in my hand, I wonder !!   Where have they been, what did they used to be and how long has it taken them  to become these beautiful pieces of sea glass and land on the beach waiting for someone to notice them.

Did you know that it can take from 40 to 100 years of tumbling around in the sea, to turn a shard of glass into a smooth beautiful gem. That is a long time! how far can a piece of glass travel in that time. Maybe I am holding a piece of glass from an old galleon sailing the seas or maybe an old part of someone’s favourite vase. Or is it from an old beer bottle !!

Whatever these pieces of glass are from, they tell me that they are very old by their smoothness and rounded edges, they tell me that they have had a journey and they tell me that they are beautiful.

They are real antiques of the sea.
